Want a Hot Tub for Your Backyard? Consider These 3 Things

Are you ready to add a hot tub to your backyard for some private relaxation? If so, you'll need to know a few things about hot tubs before you make a purchase.

What Type Of Hot Tub Will You Get?

The first thing you'll need to do is decide on the type of hot tub that you want to have. It's possible to install an in-ground hot tub, which is formed with concrete and rebar much like a swimming pool. While it is the most expensive type of hot tub, it can be customized to the exact size that you want.

There are also portable hot tubs, which while not very portable when filled with water, are referred to that way because they are possible to move. They are typically plug-and-play style hot tubs where the entire hot tub is self-contained. They are more affordable than an in-ground hot tub, and are what most people typically purchase when they think of a backyard hot tub.

How Will You Install The Hot Tub?

Many people assume that a hot tub needs to be installed on a concrete pad. However, this is not always necessary. The ground needs to be solid and completely level for where the hot tub will go.

For example, a hot tub can be placed on a deck if it is reinforced, with a deck that is low to the ground being easy to reinforce for all of the additional weight. You can also place the hot tub directly on gravel or on pavers that have been perfectly leveled on gravel.

Having ground that is not level can cause the hot tub to crack. This is because the weight is meant to be distributed across the bottom of the hot tub evenly, and having uneven ground beneath the hot tub can cause stress fractures.

Should You Get A Salt Water Hot Tub?

There is a misconception that a saltwater hot tub is not a good choice, because it will produce a smell that is similar to the ocean. This is simply not true, and you won't have this problem with a saltwater hot tub. The main benefit of using saltwater is that you'll use fewer chemicals overtime to keep the water clean. Fewer chemicals also are softer on your skin as well, which can make it worth it if you plan to use the hot tub frequently.
